THOMPSON – Shawn Monahan revels in being the show on the track in the Limited Sportsman division at Thompson Speedway.
On Sunday at the track, part of that show for the declared showman was watching him hand off the crown as the division’s champion.
Monahan won the 20-lap Limited Sportsman feature Sunday at Thompson Speedway, but it wasn’t enough for him to capture his third consecutive division title.
Instead it was Kyle Gero using a fourth place finish to capture his first division title.
“When I came out here today I only had two jobs,” Monahan said. “Win the race and put on a show. And that’s what I did today. I congratulate Kyle Gero. As much as I’d like be a champion three times in a row, some things just didn’t go our way.”
Monahan, of Waterford, finished the season with five victories in 10 events.
Gero, of Norwich, was winless, but edged Monahan by five points in the final standings.
“This is absolutely amazing,” Gero said. “I’m choked up here. I wanted this for all these guys [on my team] so much. This is just awesome.”
Ryan Morgan of Franklin was second in Sunday’s feature and Corey Fanning of Mapleville, R.I third.
