On Thursday officials from the Modified Racing Series released a statement updating competitors and fans on the state of the division’s schedule for 2020 during the COVID-19 global pandemic.
The Modified Racing Series had been scheduled to open its season on March 4 at Thompson Speedway.
The second event for the season was scheduled for May 30 at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, Me.
The third event for the series was scheduled for June 16 at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl. At this point New London-Waterford Speedbowl management has not released a 2020 schedule or announced any plans for an opening for the season. The Speedbowl was closed for the 2019 season.
The series has been scheduled to run 11 events overall this season with three events scheduled at Beech Ridge, Thompson and the Speedbowl. The series also has one event scheduled for White Mountain Motorsports Park in North Woodstock, N.H. and one event at Star Speedway in Epping, N.H.
Series officials announced Thursday that their schedule is currently in a “Standby” mode.

MAY 2020 RACE SEASON UPDATE
Hello Everyone
I hope that this finds racers and fans in well. We would like to state after to talking to several of our associated track promoters that do [sic] to the current condition being imposed on them that we are also putting our 2020 schedule on Standby, What this means is until the legislators give the promoters the green light to start opening their venues we will stand at the ready to go racing waiting for that day.
We encourage everyone to be prepared for that day anticipating that we will be required to social distance and use PPE when we return to the track. We remain optimistic that the 2020 race season will happen in some form or fashion.
We also encourage everyone to contact their local legislators and representatives to encourage them to allow these venues to open and state to them the importance of allowing them to open.

Lee Speedway made an announcement the other day stating that the WORST thing fans can do is contact your local officials. At least in NH. The tracks have been in direct contact with state officials(in NH) and don’t need fans mucking that up. It’s a process and everyone needs to chill and let the process play out. There are 1000 other sports and groups who want their activity reopened too.
Just another nail in the coffin of MRS. I honestly do not pay much attention to their coming and goings anymore. They are a shell of what they use to be.
JD, don’t you think a few hundred MAGATS in full SWAT garb and carrying AR-15s and other sidearms, occupying the capital is helpful? New stands at the speedbowl look good. Place will be different for sure. I think fans, the owner and management need to personally thank dafella for the progress. Just think. If it wasn’t the constant badgering, bullying and persistence of dafella, the stands would have never been constructed. Begging Shawn to go to the town hall to be sure the correct permits had been obtained. His engineering degree worked wonders. Thanks dafella! You are the man! Oh, also I’m thinking about getting a hair cut next week. As long as dafella and my Democrat governor says it’s ok. Can’t wait!

Agree with you Rob. Not what we really want to here, but that is the present reality. Some of the earlier re-schedulings I think were being done with an optimistic approach early in the game. In racing terms, as the race has changed from a heat to a feature, projections are changing accordingly. Being a racing optimist, I’m hoping it doesn’t turn into a long distance feature.

While everyone is arguing about all sorts of silly stuff, my concern is the MRS public relations person who wrote the press release. “…that do to the current condition being imposed…”. Are you kidding me? A sixth grader could do better. (Or is it due better?)

JD did not say it was bad. JD said Lee Speedway posted a request on FB asking NH race fans not to pester government officials in NH. Please read their FB for more info. I simply mentioned it because it contradicts what MRS put out. Again, MRS races in several states. Maybe it is different for CT or ME.
I’ve enjoyed today’s posts. The only thing better would be if Crazy rejoined the fight to drop some more wisdom on DaReal. I miss that guy.

I like the MRS approach. It is consistent with the rest of the world. Everything is in constant rapid change, any consideration of more than a couple days into the future is pure risk and unknown. Like the weather, the further in the future the less you know.
Stunning that people take covid related predictions into the future as irrefutable fact, only to get cancelled. There are plenty of Charlie Brown’s out there that can’t wait to have Lucy yank the ball again.
