Paul Scally returned to victory lane this past Saturday evening, when the NEMA Lites made their first return of the season to Bobby Webber’s Star Speedway.  Scally has proven to be very strong at the historic New England oval over the past two seasons.

The evening started with Scally setting the fastest time in practice, and then he went on to handily win his heat race with a blistering 12.68 second lap over Ryan Locke and Richie Coy. In heat 2, PJ Stergios took down the heat race win over Chase Locke and Joe Bailey in the Scrivani 21.

When the Lites rolled out for the feature event, Kyle Valeri and Scally brought the field to green.  Valeri was leading at the stripe, but Scally wasted no time blasting into the lead.  Once in the lead he began to set a torrid pace.  Scally executed perfect laps as the race wound down.

“I think the week before at Monadnock we learned a few things with the big car that really helped.  As the race was winding down, I knew the 11 was in second and knowing how good PJ is, I knew I had to keep pressuring the lapped cars and maintain a good pace.  One mistake could have cost us a perfect night,” said Scally.

Scally would go on to take down the victory over Stergios, a first podium for Kyle Valeri, Richie Coy, Joe Bailey, Matt Seavy, Ryan Locke, Chase Locke, Jim Cataldo, and Jim Santa Maria.

“Star has been one of my favorite NEMA tracks since I started in 1993.  The late Bob Webber, and now Bobby Jr., have been great for the club and the racer.  It’s a great track and I intend to come here for a long time,” said Scally.

NEMA returns to Star for the historic Star Classic on September 19th.

Congrats to Paul Scally & team! I’ve seen him have a number of great runs only to get passed late in the race. Glad to read about his victory!
