Riverhead Raceway Ready For Labor Day Weekend Doubleheader After Weather Issues

(Press Release from Riverhead Raceway)

While the 2020 short track auto racing scene has been an unusual one on so many fronts due to the Covid-19 pandemic one thing that remains a constant is the weather and Saturday night mother nature would win out on what was schedule to be the fifth week of the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Racing Series at Riverhead Raceway.

With forecaster painting a picture of 80% chance of showers at times Saturday Eddie & Connie Partridge and Tom Gatz made the call late Friday afternoon to call off racing to save their race teams the expense of making the trip to the track Saturday.

The 70th Anniversary NASCAR Modified event, a 70-lapper set for the program will now shift to this Saturday night September 5th the first half of the traditional Labor Day weekend doubleheader at the historic quarter mile oval.

Time trial qualifying will set the field and many wonder if the 11.482 track record Tom Rogers Jr. set in May of 2019 will fall in qualifying this Saturday. Joining the NASCAR Modifieds during the 70th Anniversary celebration Saturday are the Late Models, Eagle Auto Mall Crate Modifieds, Figure Eights, INEX Legend Race Cars, Mini Stocks and a Truck Enduro. Qualifying is set for 5:30 pm.

Then fast forward just hours later to Sunday and the annual Labor Day Enduro program Sunday September 6th featuring the Street Stocks, Mini Stocks, Truck Enduro, 8-Cylinder Gut & Go Enduro and a 4/6-Cylinder Gut & Go Enduro. Qualifying Sunday will commence with heat races for the Street Stocks & Mini Stocks at 12:30 pm.

Competitors and fans alike should visit www.riverheadraceway.com to view all the important gate opening times and pricing for Saturday and Sunday as well to follow the link to RiverheadRaceway.Tv to order the $25 pay per view that was introduced in early August.

  1. So are the NWMT races still on for Riverhead?? Riverhead site shows the Sept and Oct race. NASCARs schedule page still has the sept race listed, never added the Oct race. Doesn’t seem like the races can really happen, at least not with spectators and if they don’t have spectators, i don’t see the point in having the races…
Any updates on any more additions to the tour schedule ?? Some extra ones in NH or PA??

  2. Craig,
It’s my understanding that Riverhead management is waiting for some new government guidance on restrictions that is expected Sept. 4 before publicly announcing anything concerning their two scheduled Whelen Modified Tour events. As far as any further additions to the schedule, as we’ve learned this year, anything is possible. That said, I don’t think we’ll see anything new added this year.
