New Details Emerge Concerning Stabbing Of Speedbowl Owner Bruce Bemer

Bruce Bemer is congratulated after he was the high bidder on a foreclosure of auction of the New London-Waterford Speedbowl in October 2014

New details were revealed Thursday regarding the stabbing of New London-Waterford Speedbowl owner Bruce Bemer late Tuesday at his Glastonbury residence.

According to reporting from the Connecticut Post, the 67-year old Bemer was stabbed nine times in an attack by his longtime partner Jason McCormick, which was described in court documents as unprovoked.

The 47-year old McCormick, was in court Thursday morning facing charges of attempted murder, first degree assault on an elderly person and second degree threatening.

The Connecticut Post reported the arrest warrant stated Bemer called 911 and said he had been stabbed in the leg, back and hands.

It was also reported that a friend of Bemer’s also called 911 at Bemer’s request.

The arrest warranted stated that Bemer was on the phone with a friend who was in Waterford near the time of the attack. The friend, who was not named in the arrest warrant, told investigators he heard McCormick “in the background” sounding “[expletive] crazy”.

In a statement to police Bemer told investigators that McCormick: “just started swinging his arms back and forth with the knives in his hands while coming at me like a wild man.”

Bemer was treated and released from Hartford Hospital. Bemer’s attorney Anthony Spinella told the Connecticut Post that his client is resting comfortably. Police reported Bemer’s stab wounds as shallow. Bemer also reportedly suffered a fractured femur.

Should have been the sharpened end of a toothbrush. Guy should be locked up just like us regular folks would be.

  2. The Atomic Punk says

Jason needs to work on his game. The fact that people support the Bowl and hide behind “we are doing it for the track” makes me sick.

  3. Viva Race Fan says

I’ll support track and Bruce 100% . If you know him you would also. As far as I’m concerned his past actions were soliciting at best. He is a good guy and helps lots of people. Ask around. I’ve seen him help guys buy tires and fuel when they couldn’t afford to race.

  4. Bill Realist says

Viva nice try of sarcasm. This guy is a stain on the legitimacy of short track racing. Without a doubt the most disgusting character in the entire racing industry.

  5. Some sad news to pass on. This Morning around 10 am, my dad died from a car accident. While visiting my brother in Florida for the holidays
Charlie, through his company C&S Engineering was a primary sponsor for Jim Peterson’s #17 late Model at Stafford Speedway for many years, and served as jim’s spotter for a few years. He was well known in the paddock and liked by many.
Most weeks when the races ended, Charlie’s bar and grill, as it was known opened at his van in the parking lot, where he’d serve up burgers and hot dogs along with some ice cold beers. He didn’t attend any races in 2020 due to the Covid risk, but had planned on joining me at some races in 2021, once he’d received his vaccination
    Rest In Peace Pops.

Very sorry to hear about your dad. Awful news. My condolences to you and your family.

  8. Thank you Shawn. Just goes to show how quickly things can change. I was talking on the phone with him just a few minutes before it happened, sitting at his kitchen table. I was walking up my front steps on my way home next door when my sister informed me he had been in an accident, a few minutes later she called again with the sad news. That quick, life can change.

  9. Rob p., so sorry to hear about your Pops. My condolences to you and your family.

    Peace.

  10. Bill Realist, viva was not being sarcastic, he really does support the track owner. viva has been one of the loyal supporters of the track owner all along.

  11. Rob P
Very sorry for you and your family’s loss. Just the most awful news that anyone can receive.
    Godspeed to your Dad.

  12. Thank you Dareal. It’s Friday morning and the past 24 hrs have been hell.

  17. So, so sorry, Rob…

  18. knuckles Mahoney says

Rob P, so sorry to hear about your dad. This story, there is no possible way he was treated and released with a fractured femur.

  19. Thanks to everyone for your kindness. If you were a regular at Stafford, you probably knew Charlie.

  20. Viva Race Fan says

God Bless you all and your family

  21. Viva Race Fan says

    Ty Dareal.

  22. Rob p, my heartfelt condolences go out to you and you family on the tragic loss of your dad. Stay strong my friend.

  23. Nobody I have ever known has been treated and released when suffering a fractured femur. Largest of the 206 bones in the human body with a major artery the femoral artery right next to it. Extremely dangerous fracture to have.

  24. My buddy died from that last February right before Covid hit. Fell off a ladder, in hospital 5 days, something went horribly wrong. Bled out before they could figure out what happened. We found out later. Started with the fractured femur. I never knew how serous an injury that was till then.

  25. So what is the latest status at the ‘bowl?

Is the reconstruction complete? I understand the place reopened in a somewhat less than complete configuration. What’s left to complete?

  26. Viva Race Fan says

Tower and concession stands. Seemed like food trucks worked. We will see going fwd.

  27. The Atomic Punk says

Hey Viva where do you guys hide the trailers on the property that has people locked in it?…Wishing you the karma you deserve.

Dafella acting like he doesn’t know what’s left to complete.😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤡 How’s the construction of the stands going?

  29. Atomic, they use Winnebagos, RVs.

  30. solstaseson says

My heart goes out to you Rob P. Lost my dad in a car wreck in West Fl in March 2012, May they both rest in peace.

  31. Solstaseson, I’ll drink to that. My condolences, the circumstances make the situation that much harder to deal with, hope your doing ok

  32. 2020, not that it’s of your concern, but I posted about my dad’s death because he was a racer. For many years in addition to working on the car, He was a primary sponsor for the #17 Late Model driven by his son in law Jim Peterson. After Jim retired he stayed on the 17 as an associate sponsor when Josh Wood drove. He was a fixture in both the pits and stands at Stafford for many years he knew allot of people, and had many freinds at the track

  33. Is true. Rob p’s life over the last two years has been challenging to say the least. Mom passes late 2019. Meme and grandpa die in the fall of 2020 from the virus. All told 13 family and friends die from the virus. There’s the accident, hospital stay and now this.
It’s bad living it but it’s not unusual. The causes are different but anyone that lives through the years from about 50 to 65 you’re going to be losing grandparents and parents. Now in his mid 50’s it’s Rob p’s turn.
How do I know all this, Rob p told me. In his posts. No doubt he is the all time champion in having people express condolences and no one will ever come close. They won’t because Rob p wears his life on his sleeve for all to read. One of the few. Actually the only one on a consistent basis. Especially now immediately after a crushing loss. Why I ask would a person come here when he should be sharing remembrances with his wife, siblings and friends that actually know the person that has died. Why would that guy be responding to the one questionable comment in bad taste on the cusp of a deeply personal loss. That and there is much to do when a person passes away. On the other hand I’m guessing many here appreciate a person willing to humanize their entries in a place anonymous screen ID’s generally provide a convenient vehicle to express thoughts you’d never say out loud in person.
I have a question. After all the lecturing from Rob p about safety and hunkering down and sacrifice is your elderly father visiting his son in Florida while the pandemic is raging on the holidays against the best advice of the professionals you Rob p incessantly sight.
But that wouldn’t be proper now in this time of grief so I too will express my condolences. That’s what you do don’t you. Even when you don’t really know who you are expressing condolences about or the person you’re expressing them to.
Yes that is now the second entry in bad taste as I exceed the bad taste of 2020. I am glad to read that Rob p will now discontinue all the comments about Trump and Covid19 that have nothing to do with racing.

  34. 🌈🦄2020 says

Rob p, when you post stuff on here for all the world to see, it’s everyone’s concern.

  35. Pretty bold statement to make their Punk. And you have what proof of the trailers on site that has people locked in it? Waterford PD, CSP, FBI? What news outlet reported this info?

We all know you despise the man as much as most of us do but, come on man.

  36. Shawn, sorry for causing contraversy. Dad was a racer, and figured posting that, maybe some people who knew him would be informed, after all, more people read this then those who post. Anyway sorry, maybe I’ll approach you about doing a legit piece Dad was a racer, and the racing community needed to know. So sorry Doug, 2020 and the rest of you.

  37. Rob P.
I don’t think there’s anything you need to apologize for.

  38. Doug reached a low never thought possible.

  39. I know that was bad wasn’t it? A guy loses his father unexpectedly in a car accident and here I am using it as an opportunity to attack him. There is no excuse it’s rude behavior no matter what spin you put on it and Mr Courchesne has put an exclamation point on it. The reason may be having been called an idiot, moron and other names numerous times by Rob p, it builds up so Rob p is no friend of mine. On the other hand I wish no one ill will. This is more about what is appropriate and the amount.
Seriously, a guys dad dies 8 years ago and he gets condolences. Is this RaceDayCt or a group grief counseling session?
If Mr. Courchesne would be so kind to give me a little more latitude to express a few thoughts I’d be grateful. He speaks for the forum but the forum in comprised of dozens or hundreds of individuals where reminders of personal loss elicit strong emotions that are relevant as well.
I don’t get it. I’m old enough to know the drill and quite well as a matter of fact. Accidental death, lingering dehumanizing illness and years of dementia leading to the inevitable. Lot’s of pain. Looking back I can’t imagine going to an anonymous forum let alone a racing forum to disclose deeply personal losses and hurts to a bunch of strangers that never knew the one that passed. Call me old fashioned. I don’t think it’s fair or respectful to the forum to do such a thing in such high volume.. It’s more selfish in my view.
Sure sorry for your loss. And if you were in the service thank you for your service. Not a fan of any of those shallow pat phrases designed basically to say the right thing in the shortest amount of time and get the hell away from the person glad it’s not you.
I know cynical right? Not really my policy is to engage folks personally that have experienced deep personal loss, show interest, lend and ear and be patient. I don’t know Rob p, I know the anonymous persona here that mostly I find annoying with the constant preaching about Covid19, getting facts wrong, embellishing and Trump bashing. If I did know Rob p I wouldn’t be saying sorry for your loss. I’d be asking questions that elicited emotions then just listen.
This isn’t about Rob p’s dad. This is about me knowing how all his friends and relatives that have died, the reasons and a lot of other details as well. They weren’t all racers.
Mr. Courchesne very succinctly has made it clear that I and not Rob p am the one being inappropriate. He’s right of course with regard to the forum. However it may also be true that bringing up loss and personal tragedy in a racing forum is inappropriate as well to a segment of the forum. Blindsided with reminders of one’s own personal loss that’s a bell that can’t be unrung after you read it.
I know I’m out of step here but just think if you value the forum, it’s mission and the fact it’s more a means of escape it shouldn’t be too much to ask to disclose personal loss and hurts in doses and not every event in your life.

  40. If the people I’ve mentioned hadn’t died if a virus furring a pandemic, when Covid was mainly the topic being discussed, I wouldn’t have mentioned them. Did so to show how serious the virus was, and how close it can strike.
My Dad on the other hand was a racer along with being a long time sponsor, as well as being known and we’ll liked at the track. I put that up, with enough detail to inform the people who may have known him only from the racetrack. Personally, Doug, I could care less how you feel about anything, posting that was the right thing to do, as the outpouring of support showed
Rest in Peace Charlie, or as I knew him DAD.

  41. Personally Doug, aka welding wonders aka …
Your long winded rants, devoid of scope, or even general context are, well, quite boring and somewhat annoying.
By reading them, I get the picture your some miserable, old grumpy dude, who sits in his recliner ok issued off at the world.
    SAD very SAD.

  42. That should have read pissed off at the world, but ye, you definitely also have issues, serious issues

  43. Miserable, old grumpy dude who sits in a recliner OK issued (all pissed) off at the world aye. Well first off I resent you criticizing my recliner. I love may recliner or as I like to refer to it my fart sponge. As for miserable and grumpy or your previous observations that I am and idiot, moron and not as smart as you that could very well be true. None of us like to think in those terms but sometimes it sneaks up on us.
I have located the details of the accident I believe and it was tragic. If I have the right event it could have been far worse had the two passengers in the other vehicle been seriously hurt which thank God they weren’t. I also have located the obit that is very nice with the race appropriate graphic. It’s not my place to go into details but do appreciate you providing the dots necessary to transform it from a vague anonymous post to a real person that has greater impact.
It is a new world indeed and I confess to being completely out of step with. The accident was on New Years Eve. A few days later you’re here making the same type of comments congratulating Tony Membrino and the usual stuff on Covid19 and Bemer like nothing happened. I would think you’d go dark for a period of reflection and mourning with family and friends but maybe that’s not the way it’s done these days. Maybe it’s common to go on social media and comment forums to alternatively vent your emotions and try to maintain a sense of normalcy at the same time.
In the end I suppose there is no one way to grieve the loss of a loved one.

  44. That’s it Doug, I come here and comment on different things just to keep occupied. Hope you got the right obit. Hot air balloon in the corner, another sport he loved. He was a great guy, and had allot of friends at the track. Sorry for the rudeness in the past Doug, I’ll try and be better moving forward.

  45. Doug that photo was actually taken at Stafford, in the main grandstands.

  46. Doug, it is you that is profoundly socially incompetent.

Vehicle technology IS math, high level math. Memory recall and understanding are two completely different things. I don’t even bother getting into conversations about technology or chassis tuning unless the person has the appropriate training. It’s all math, and that math is not available until later college classes, and gets really useful in grad school math

So yes, I am normally preparing multi-million dollar plans and budgets for a variety of huge product development efforts. Knowing how to calculate what something will cost is a major part of what I do with my engineering expertise. Common practice for engineering professionals. It’s what we do.

As far as exercise goes, I avoid the crowded trails and stay on the road, or avoid the times the trails are more crowded, and still get about 15 miles of biking per day or 3 miles of walking.
Just had to replace the cogs and chain on my bike, they were so worn out!

Earl, no offense intended, but it takes far more than the numerous degrees I hold and schools I attended for you to qualify my expertise. I can tell you, but you still won’t be able to qualify my expertise.
Went to a top notch engineering grad school. One of my profs worked on the re-entry calculations of the Apollo program. He told the US Navy they needed to move the recovery aircraft carrier quickly. Good thing they did.
