A deep list of talent will arrive next month at New Smyrna Speedway in New Smyrna, Fla to hunt the Tour Type Modified division championship at the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing.

But it’s fair to say that man with the biggest target on his back is Northampton, Pa. driver Matt Hirschman.

Hirschman goes looking for his second consecutive New Smryna World Series championship and third in four years when the action kicks off in Florida.

The Tour Type Modified division will run five consecutive nights of the nine-day World Series with features each night from Feb. 8 to Feb. 12.

“It’s one of the hardest things you can do, but it’s also one of the most rewarding,” Hirschman said of winning a championship at New Smyrna during Episode 82 of Unmuffled. “… It’s five straight days. I find that the satisfaction of winning is greater. It has nothing to do with the amount of money or anything like that. It’s just because it’s you and a group of guys that get together and you go to work every single day and you just do the same thing. It’s rinse and repeat for five plus days. At the end of that week, if you had a bad week you’re hating life and if you had a really good week and you can win the championship it’s just an incredibly rewarding feeling.”

  1. This event works well for MH. He’s a very strategic and tactical racer, and that is what is needed over 5 consecutive nights of racing.

    Let’s hope for clear weather!!!!
