(Press Release from New London-Waterford Speedbowl)
The Saturday Championship Race Season begins on May 8th with the traditional Blast-Off 2021. Saturday racing continues into October ending on the weekend of October 15th-17th with The Finale.
Highlights of the schedule include a new SK® Modified Fast Five Series. Drivers who compete in each of the extra distance races will earn extra money, and points will be accumulated to crown a champion at the end of the five races.
Also new this year is the three race Triple Threat Series. This series of three races will be held on June 12th, August 21st, and the final on October 21st. Details about those two programs will be finalized in the near future and additional information will be released.
The Open Street Stocks return for five events during the Saturday Championship Season. This season the Open Street Stocks will be following a rules package very much like what was used for the Northeast Street Stock Championship Event, which was held at Smacktoberfest this past season.
The Pro-4 Modifieds return for five events in 2021. Also, NEMA and the Granite State Pro Stock Series will return for events. As always you never know what else may be added as we get closer to the start of the 2021 season.
The Wild n Wacky Wednesday race program returns this year beginning on Wednesday, May 19th and finishing with Championship Night on September 1st. As always, Wednesdays will feature the Super-X Cars, X-Cars, Bandoleros and Legend Cars. The Vintage Midget Racing Series will join the Wednesday night events on seven occasions this season. In addition to Wednesday nights, the Super-X Cars, X-Cars, and the Bandoleros can be found competing on select Saturday events during the season.
Finally there are two Family Fun Events scheduled this season. The first one is slated for Sunday, May 23rd and will feature Spectator Drags, Ladies Enduro, Truck/SUV Enduro and Round 1 of the Compact Enduro Championship. New this season, the top 10 finishers in each event of this five race series will earn points towards a championship that will be crowned at Smacktoberfest.
There will be three other events held on Saturdays during the season for the Compact Enduro cars. For competitors, 2021 Number Registration forms and the remainder of the divisional rules for 2021 will be released in the upcoming weeks.
The Speedbowl continues to be the wild card in New England short track racing …

How are them new stands Dafella. Do they meet your engineering standards? I’m curious about the two day event in November. A week before what is usually the turkey derby.

i’m happy for the fans and racers who love waterford, hope the new season is good for all the local tracks. maybe they’ll all align their rules a little better so more teams can run at different tracks with basically the same car.
Congratulations Speedbowl nation that schedule is downright impressive with intriguing wrinkles. You had a good season with only a few weeks notice in 2020 . Plenty of lead time now for the teams should make this years racing downright robust.
Chuck, Stafford aligned rules for street stocks over the last two seasons and Waterford and Thompson just made some big changes to their rules a few days ago that requires pretty big changes. Their street stock are pretty much Stafford limited late models now. SK and SKL are pretty much Stafford rules.

Are you saying it’s gone away? I personally know two wonderful, healthy folks who died from it in the last two weeks in CT. Both attended Thanksgiving family gatherings. One played league softball and basketball just last season.

Those are pretty significant changes to the Speedbowl formerly Limited Sportsman rules. I’m reading Mustangs, Camaro’s, Challengers allowed. Two barrel carbs and locked rear ends. I don’t see it as being any where near equivalent to the Stafford LLM’s as a package that with reasonable changes can become Late Models.
Stafford…sheesh. No they won’t be adapting any common rules with other tracks in the foreseeable future.
Any touring series? Maybe they determined they don’t need any to have a successful season. Certainly saves them $$$$$$. Did you read the schedule? What does it say? Where did you get your alleged engineering degree from? Walmart U? Speaking of cute, you are precious.

As far as the speedbowl, quite an ambitious schedule, new-ish management. Should be interesting
. Earl, the only touring series are the NEMA midgets, and G.S.P.S.S. maybe a modified touring series will jump in, it’s still early.

Chill out dude, Bemers been sentenced on rock solid charges, once he loses his appeal, he’ll have to serve his time, and repay his debt to society. Dareal, Racing does NOT have to revolve around any touring series. Sometimes just good old fashion local racing is just fine. You are a VERY shallow person if you rely only upon TOURING series. Pleeease
I count 19 SK events at the Bowl – with 4 “off” nights for the SKs (6/19, 8/14, 9/4 and 9/25). The Bowl won’t run at all on 10/9 (conflict with Thompson’s World Series). It will be interesting to see if the “SK Fast 5” events draw more SKs from Stafford and/or Thompson. Now, let’s see if it all takes place …

Ken L, racing does indeed revolve around touring series. duh. 😒 There’s a reason why touring series are big draws. SK racing is very good, the Pro-4 are very entertaining and quite competitive, but the touring series are the headline for good 😌 reason.

Dareal, I guess you will have to include the Stafford, Thompson, WMT, TTOMS etc., etc. etc. schedules into your statement of how much if any of the schedules happen. I believe they are all providing the same form of entertainment as the Speedbowl that will ultimately be decided by COVID-19 and the regulations set forth by the States where the tracks are domiciled in.

Don’t count tour “type” modifieds out, word is there will be a tour type race or two, maybe just not sanctioned by any particular tour. Also word is possibly additional prostock races. Looking to be a great, and exciting season.

Fans came out with only a few weeks notice in a pandemic with no beer and having to wear masks in the stands. This is lightyears ahead of that.
The owner notwithstanding the Speedbowl is not just a racetrack it’s a multi generational tradition. It’s success not just big events but loads of divisions on two day a racing a week.
They do have big events scheduled including the SK’s. They do just fine at the Stafford SK5K special event. There is likely to be a tour mod or tour mods event(s) there as well.
