Bobby Santos III, Tinio Motorsports Adds Rescheduled Icebreaker 125 At Thompson To Schedule

For Tinio Motorsports, there’s little question what the team’s home track is.

Tinio Motorsports got its start racing weekly in the Late Model division at Thompson Speedway before blossoming into one of the top Tour Type Modified teams in the region.

But when it came to this year’s Icebreaker 125 Thompson Outlaw Modified event, the schedule just didn’t work for the team to be able to run on the originally scheduled date of April 3.

But now with a move on the calendar, it all aligns for the Mendon, Mass. team and their driver Bobby Santos III.

Team manager Lawney Tinio confirmed to RaceDayCT Tuesday that Santos and the Tinio Motorsports team will be at Thompson for Saturday’s rescheduled $10,000 to win Icebreaker 125.

With the team running in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Virginia Is For Racing Lovers 150 Friday at Richmond (Va.) Raceway, they could not commit to competing in the originally scheduled date for the Icebreaker 125.

“It was a last minute conversation about doing it,” Santos told RaceDayCT. “And I guess that’s the plan now. We’re looking forward to it.”

The Icebreaker 125 is one of five features on the schedule for Saturday’s second day of Icebreaker weekend. Also on the schedule for Saturday are features for the Late Models, Limited Sportsman division, SK Light Modifieds and Mini Stocks.

Great news! There’s one team that couldn’t do both coming to the rain date, hopefully there’s more!

  2. What’s the rain date? Saturday is not looking good.

  3. Fast Eddie says

I would hope if needed the “rain date for the rain date” would be Sunday, 4/10.

  4. I think this is a good move by them. I think tinio and Santos have been a bit off the last couple of years in a very small body of work. Yeah, i know , i know. Covid. Mr Tinio’s untimely death.
    Thompson does not equal Stafford.
I get it all. But how can this extra seat time hurt going into the Sizzler, for a team that I think is off a little bit. At the very least, unless Bobby wrecks a primary car at Thompson, how can the extra “gelling” time hurt? Just my humble keyboard opinion.

  5. I would assume that the rain date is on 4/10. They need more than Bobby Santos to save the Icebreaker. I hope Corey Berry is doing well. It was a hard hit. Kind of like Jerry Marquis had in the Bob Garbarino (v4) car about 15 – 20 years ago. Thompson is extremely unforgiving with dirt backing up the concrete walls in the corners. I hope Corey is doing well.

Drift club has scheduled and paid for road course use on 4/10/22.

  7. Fast Eddie says

Bobf, agreed, there’s no substitute for seat time and team time. And I hope it works exceptionally well!

  8. Bobby Santos III does not need more seat time. The guy is a great driver. He needs a good, well prepared car.

If BSIII has his father as Crew Chief, all should be good.

If I were running a car, I’d worry if BSIII’s father showed up.

  9. I don’t think seat time matters for Bobby, just look at the win at New Hampshire, driving for sapienza. He’ll be a threat for the win. I hope more cars end up showing up to actually make it a race. Good Luck to everyone.

  10. I think I get the point of the original comment on seat time. Seat time isn’t necessarily about the driver it’s about the team. The Icebreaker an opportunity for Tinio and company to dial in the car and as infrequent racers they need it more then most. Santos is popular no doubt and much is expected. Winning the expectation and if that’s not happening a disappointment. But the 44ma is certainly competitive. A win, 3rd and 4th last year with the third coming at the 2021 Icebreaker. Is the problem the 44ma or is it the unrealistic expectations set for a popular driver by fans?
Santos at Thompson may be a moot point anyway the tour mod portion of the Icebreaker 2022 appears to be cursed. Saturday a lot of moisture and Sunday Lock City Drift takes the stage. What to do?
How about the following week? Mass Tuning whatever that is on the schedule at Thompson. The same day the Northeast Classic at NHMS with the MRS providing the tour mod portion of the show. Sunday the 17th reserved by God does not appear to be an option. The following week the Sizzler envelops the entire Northeast tour mod universe.
    Hmmm, what to do?
April 30-TTOMS at Monadnock. American Muscle and The Club at TSMP Sat and Sun.
    May 7 & 8 Tony’s Track Days at Thompson
    Hmm what to do.
    I give up.

  11. Is this still on????

    🌧. ☔️

  12. Is this happening today?

  13. darealgoodfella,
    Yes.

  14. Sun’s out in Enfield, Ct! Oh wait it went back in.
These poor guys deserve better. They’re sitting there with tickets they have to honor for some kind of race and near as I can figure today is it with no other good option on the horizon.
Promoters are modern day river boat gamblers and lucky for we fans they are.

  15. Definitely not the weather you are hoping for at Thompson today, but I think they will get it in. Unfortunately, foe everyone involved it may be a long cold day. I assume no pick em contest for this one. I didn’t see anything. Honestly, I am not sure I could pick 5 drivers who I know will be in attendance, If we are picking I will go with

cg picks Santos Williams Swanson Owen Pasteryak

Best of luck today, Enjoy the races

Talked to a worker here. Mgmt. told him they were running today no matter how long it took. Just poured for 15 min., now the sun is out with thunder in the background…one of those days!!

  17. Fast Eddie says

Hopefully the last monsoon is almpst over, getting much brighter out now.

  18. Any update? I am 5 miles from there but it is still raining east of here. Where the track is!
