RaceDayCT Poll: Would You Have Preferred Doug Coby In The SRX Race At Stafford Over Justin Marks?

Former Indianapolis 500 winner Helio Castroneves was forced to pull out of the lineup for Saturday’s SRX Series event at Stafford Speedway.

Castroneves was replaced in the lineup with former racer and current NASCAR Cup Series Trackhouse Racing co-owner Justin Marks.

Last year former Stafford Speedway champion and six-time NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion Doug Coby won the first ever SRX Series event at Stafford.

Matt Hirschman earned the SRX Series starting spot that was up for grabs this year’s event at Stafford by winning the 50th NAPA Spring Sizzler in April. But, with the late opening created by Castroneves dropping out, some thought Coby should have been added to the field to defend his victory from last year.

What are your thoughts? Do you think Doug Coby should have been added to the SRX Series field to fill the roster spot that opened when Castroneves dropped out? Vote below.

  1. Though I don’t pull for Matt in modified events, I am pulling for him Saturday. I think Marks is a fine replacement and I am glad they chose him. I’d like to see them open this up to top drivers other than Nascar/Indycar… John Force? Ron Capps? Jordan or Ricky Taylor? Brad Sweet? The bigger issue I have is with Deegan. She is no superstar and does not belong in this lineup. Hopefully Tracy takes care of her quickly.

    Doug…5-60-14-39-69-18

Anyone game or do we pass based on lack of interest???

  3. Colby, Rocco or Fearn would’ve better all great wheelmen at Stafford.

  4. the best race of the the night will most likely be the Modifieds. any talk of Matt bringing a car to race? Is the modified event on Flo?

  5. Sharpie Fan says

Correct me if I’m wrong, but Justin Marks has won more races this year as an owner than he ever did as a driver. The “S” is supposed to be for Superstar. Coby OR Preece would have been a better replacement.

  6. Honestly, I didnt know Justin Marks was a cup driver until reading this article. For locals Coby would have been the better choice….but I think they already sold out of tickets for this one, so really no need to have a bigger local draw.. Nationally for the tv audience, this Marks guy is probably more widely known and a good choice. I was thinking Justin marks was a dirt 410 sprint car driver who races in PA. I was thinking that would be interesting, I wonder if he ever raced on pavement before. Now that I know he is a cup driver I am less interested in this race. Whats up with Spider man why did he have to skip the race?

  7. Anybody got Preece’s phone number????

  8. I’d be curious if anybody here is watching it. Totally forget the first two events were on myself. Last week Riverhead competing. Replays via Youtube showed a sketchy crowd for the first one and TV ratings that were……lets say not good to be kind. South Boston decent crowd if not capacity and fireworks galore with Stewart losing it after a heat. That’s good right?
Stewart says they can do better after all the damage last Saturday…I’m thinking why would you want that.
So now it’s on to Stafford with precipitation putting up a road block to the best possible showing for the home team.
Does the greater racing nation care that much? TV ratings say enjoy it while it lasts if you are enjoying it at all.
Hoping someone with a little gumption puts Stewart in the wall. The Safer barrier of course don’t want Mr Dirt Track, Super Star potty mouth to get hurt. Preferably Hirschman after they have a scuffle.
Deegan for the win in a nail biter with Hirschman second.

  9. I have enjoyed the first two shows, very entertaining and some good racing. Hoping P Tracy can make some noise at Stafford

HMMMMMMMM CROWDS DOWN, RATINGS DOWN and Stewart goes OFFF on the kid, made for TV drama

  11. Hillary 2024 says

    Manufactured drama.

  12. I’ve been following racing a long time. I’ve never heard of Justin Marks until recently. Superstar? I dunno. As well as Doug Coby did last year & as proud of him as we all should be I don’t think this series is meant to advance somebodies’ career. Give somebody else a turn. There are plenty of other SK or even LM drivers that could do well in that seat.

  13. I had to Google the guy, so… superstar? To me Coby would have made sense, with interest nationally as a winner in last year’s series. I also don’t really understand why Hallie Deegan is there.

I’m with JG… A few more sports car or sprint car drivers in the series would be nice. I remember Mark Webber was supposed to be in last year’s series, but I don’t think he ever participated. The Taylors would be GREAT and Ricky is hilarious, as would Pat Long or Bill Auberlen, both also good with TV interviews. Chris Dyson is within driving distance of Stafford for a single race fill-in and is currently successful in TransAm and a past IMSA Prototype champ.

John Force had some funny comments about race cars that turn when his daughter married Graham Rahal. I don’t think he’d ever go in circles.

I tend to DVR these events, so I can fast forward through most of the off-track parts of the broadcast.

  14. Darn it… morning brain fart!

JORDAN Taylor is the funny Taylor who’d be fun in SRX. Ricky is the quiet one.

  15. Fast Eddie says

    18, 39, 14, 69, 60, 15

  16. Doesn’t look like we’re getting much interest on the SRX Pick 6. Why don’t we say if we can’t get five people to join in we’ll just scrap this one?

  17. SRX Forum Pick 6 cancelled says

SRX Pick 6 cancelled due to lack of interest.
