Weather Postpones 51st NAPA Spring Sizzler To May 12-13 At Stafford

(Press release from Stafford Speedway)

Unfavorable weather has forced Stafford Speedway officials to postpone the 51st NAPA Auto Parts Spring Sizzler® to Friday, May 12th and Saturday, May 13th.

The updated schedule moves the NAPA Auto Parts Duel and American Canadian Tour 75 to an evening event Friday, May 12th with feature racing schedule for 6:45pm. The 51st NAPA Auto Parts Spring Sizzler® will now be held Saturday, May 13th with feature racing scheduled for 3:15pm.  All tickets are good for the rescheduled dates.

“We’ll have to wait a few more weeks to kick-off the 2023 season,” noted Stafford CEO Mark Arute. “With so many teams and fans traveling for the NAPA Spring Sizzler® we have decided to make the call a bit earlier than usual. We took a look at the conflicts and decided that May 12th and 13th is the best option for teams and fans. We’ll come back in two weeks and celebrate the 51st running of the NAPA Spring Sizzler®.”

Due to the condensed Friday May 12th eveningschedule, Street Stocks and Limited Late Models will be pre-qualified for their feature and Vintage All-Stars have been moved to the NAPA Fall Final. Rain date for the rescheduled event is tentatively set for May 14th.

Updated schedules are now available on staffordspeedway.com/schedule. Tickets for the rescheduled event are available online at staffordspeedway.com/tickets.

Thank you Stafford for making the early call and not forcing us to wait it out in the rain. 👍🏁👍

  2. I looked earlier this week and Saturday didn’t look too bad. I was planning on going. Sunday didn’t look good at all. It stinks for any drivers planning on running waterford. They have a race scheduled for that Saturday and I doubt they would be able to run both shows. Earlier in the week, a few of us were speculating whether they would go against Whelen tour at Monadnock if a make-up was required. I said they might given Nascar originally scheduled against the Sizzler last year. Its nice to see them playing nice. It works out much better for everyone if we can keep these scheduling conflicts to minimum. I was really looking forward to some local racing this weekend.

Personally, I don’t think next weekend was ever a realistic possibility for a make-up date. In addition to the WMT being at Monadnock, ACT is at Thunder Road, and both Waterford and Seekonk have their season openers (and then go directly into weekly racing). It’s a case where there were no great options, but the May 12/13 rescheduling seems to be the best one.

  4. Water is wet.

  5. Waterford will still get the cars. It will just be whoever doesnt think they can get into the lights or sk with so many cars so they will get the overflow cars.

  6. Good point CMO.. I didn’t realize ACT was at TRoad next weekend. I think they had to go with a Friday schedule due to ACT late model teams running for points at weekly tracks. The streets and limited are not running heats and are prequalified. How are they going to do that they haven’t run any races this year to have points. I guess they can go off of last years points but I would assume there are several drivers that are new or moved on from the division. Probably doesn’t matter if they get less than a full field which is often the case in the full fendered divisions at Stafford. Nothing you can do about weather. Still stinks I was looking forward to Saturday. There has been a lot of rainouts. Lucas Oil Late models haven’t run since Feb. They cancelled for this weekend and have lost around 5 or 6 races in row to weather now. I will probably try to get to somewhere next weekend maybe Waterford or Seekonk. Hopefully the weather is good.

Great move by Stafford to not have a “wet car show'” this weekend, forecast is pretty bad. Also looking iffy for Monadnock next week. Mother Nature wasn’t too bad during winter, but she’s certainly been an evil woman to the racing world so far this year!!

  8. Gotta say if you’re going to lose a big show to weather better it be a real drencher where there’s no second guessing about the call or time wasted trying to fight the inevitable.
