The history of the main event at the North-South Shootout has proven to be a who’s who of Tour Type Modified drivers to visit victory lane in the event over the years.
But nobody quite the way Matt Hirschman does it.
The Northampton, Pa. has long been a fixture at the North Carolina event and more times than not is the one being celebrated when the event is over.
And that was the case again Saturday.
Hirschman, coming off a victory in the Monaco Modified Tri-Track NAPA Fall Final last Saturday at Stafford Speedway, won the 125-lap Tour Type Modified feature Saturday at the 21st North-South Shootout at Caraway Speedway in Sophia, N.C.
It was Hirschman’s ninth time winning the event.
Patrick Emerling of Orchard Park, N.Y. was second and Andy Seuss of Hampstead, N.H. third.
Hirschman also won the event in 2006, 2007, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2017, 2021 and 2022.
The late John Blewett III, Ryan Preece, Burt Myers and Seuss have all won the event twice. Donny Lia, Justin Bonsignore, Max McLaughlin and Jon McKennedy are single-time winners of the event.

Wow, is that result perfectly symmetrical or what? Hirschman (60) and Emerling (14) the same tandem in the same order that dominated New Smyrna in February.
A while back there was some chatter about Hirschman running a full tour schedule that mainly originated from we fans. Why? My Lord the guy is on a roll raking in winner shares. That broken limb probably gave the team more time to perfect their already pretty great winning machines.
Probably will not be a factor in the Islip 300 but is sure to be the favorite for the big Turkey Derby check at Wall.
Congrats to “Big Money Matt” for winning the North South shootout and bringing the trophy back up North. There’s a reason it’s called the NORTH south shootout. Great job by Emerling another northerner.

Was not impressed with the roster of this race.
