THOMPSON – The 2023 racing season at Thompson Speedway for Tyler Chapman ended with a wrecked race car in the final race of the season.

Sunday at Thompson Chapman recovered from that bad ending with a perfect beginning.

Chapman, of Ellington, drove away from the field to win the 30-lap SK Light Modified feature Sunday at the Thompson Speedway Icebreaker.

“Our team worked all weekend,” Chapman said. “We had an oil problem as soon as we unloaded it, but all the people who came out to help today definitely gave us a hand. … The last race at Thompson we were junked on the front straightaway so we turned that one around.”

Nick Hovey of Scotland was second and John O’Sullivan of Salem third.

Jon Puleo of Branford topped the 30-lap feature to become the first winner in history in the newly introduced Sunoco 604 Modified division. Puleo of Branford remained the division’s only winner in history by scoring victory in the second 30-lap feature of the day.

“It’s a lot of fun,” Puleo said. “Hopefully we get more cars. This motor package puts on a pretty good show.”

Troy Talman of Oxford, Mass. was second and Tyler Barry of Griswold third in the first feature. Danny Cates of Chaplin was second in the second feature and Barry was third.

Jared Roy of Sterling topped the 20-lap Mini Stock feature.

Ryan Pomposelli of Smithfield, R.I. was second and Kyle Wing of Marshfield, Mass. was third.

Comments

  1. Anyone watch the 604 race? Was it any good? Hard to watch a 9 car race at Thompson…

  2. Chapman was far and away the fastest. No competition for him.

  3. Hillary 2024 says

As I said earlier, it was sad the 604 races were a good time to use the restroom. Hope it improves.

  4. Fast Eddie says

The 604’s were ok, definitely need more cars, hopefully that will happen.
