Current NAPA Spring Sizzler Weather Contingency Plan At Stafford Speedway

Mother Nature is clearly not wanting to be cooperative in 2024 when it comes the NAPA Spring Sizzler at Stafford Speedway.

After attempting to dry the track for four hours on April 28, the decision was made to postpone the NAPA Spring Sizzler 100 to May 10, which was originally scheduled as the opening Friday night event of the year for Stafford Speedway.

It’s fair to characterize the current forecast for Friday as iffy at best.

Depending on what weather app or TV station you’re watching, there’s anyting from a 30 percent to 80 percent chance of rain on Friday.

Should weather on Friday force a second postponement of the NAPA Spring Sizzler, the event would be run on Friday May 17 at Stafford Speedway.

Comments

  1. More likely than not it’s going to rain. I’ve been watching both Springfield channels, the weather channel and checking the Weatherbug app for Stafford Springs.

  2. Fast Eddie says

Rob P., man I sincerely hope you’re right!!

  3. and the Tour goes on and on .... says

Hopefully they can get the Pit party in.

  4. Why not race Saturday?

  5. Mike,
Do we need to go over all the reasons? This isn’t a track that typically runs on Saturday’s. It’s one thing to get the place staffed for a Saturday or Sunday when that event is scheduled for months in advance. It’s another thing to get staff to work on a Saturday or Sunday on short notice when those people typically work there on Friday’s about 90 percent of the time.
Also, there’s lots of crossover between Stafford staff, crews and competitors with the New London-Waterford Speedbowl, which is running on Saturday. So suddenly a team intending to run for a championship at Waterford has to choose between skipping either Stafford or Waterford. Not a great situation to put people in.

  6. Maybe they could hire and the tour goes on and on as an advisor, he seems real intelligent

  7. and the Tour goes on and on .... says

Elect try going to a track other than Stafford once in your life.

  8. Marshall says

Looks like we’ll actually go racing tonight!

  9. Well, as they say, it’s New England, if you don’t like the weather wait a minute. Just checked Weatherbug, no rain forecasted for tonight. Don’t mean it won’t rain, but chance is minimal. Enjoy the races
