NASCAR Penalty Issued To Sam Rameau After Race Weekend At Thompson Speedway

(Press Release from NASCAR Integrated Marketing Communications)

Driver Sam Rameau of the No. 06 Rameau Family Motorsports team NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour entry is indefinitely suspended from NASCAR and any NASCAR-sanctioned events.

The rule infraction is as follows:

12-8

A. NASCAR membership is a privilege. With that privilege comes certain benefits, responsibilities and obligations. Correct and proper conduct, both on and off the race track, is part of a Member’s responsibilities. A Member’s actions can reflect upon the sport as a whole and on other NASCAR Members. Ideally, NASCAR Members are role models for the many fans who follow this sport, regardless of the type of license a Member may hold, or specific Series in which a Member may participate. Therefore, NASCAR views a Member’s conduct, both on and off the race track, which might constitute a behavioral Rules violation under the Rule Book with great importance.

12-8.1 Member Conduct Guidelines

C-2. Member-to-Member confrontation(s) with physical violence and other violent manifestations such as significant threat(s) and/or abuse and/or endangerment;

E-1. Actions by a NASCAR Member that NASCAR finds to be detrimental to stock car racing or NASCAR.

Comments

  1. Saw that coming

  2. Now for all the keyboard warriors to turn their attention to Stafford after making claims all those claims on what NASCAR was going to do

  3. NASCAR has spoken, let it’s word be God.
According to the article, only Sam was suspended. What about the others?
Stafford probably won’t get involved unless they absolutely have to, ie if Rameu shows up. Has he even races there before outside the tour?

  4. Old Observer says

    He can’t race

  5. Old Observer says

He can’t race Stafford or Waterford this month because Tri-Track has already suspended him.

  6. Old Observer says

He can’t race at either Stafford or Waterford because Tri-Track has already suspended him

  7. I think that is effectively cancelled. What’s left? Stafford opens and MRS? maybe NHSTRA? or did I miss their press releases. It may be time to take up boating or golf

  8. Just Saying says

I would say we seen the last of the ramrod family the best thing for them to do is have a nice big tag sale and sell all your junk. Let’s admit he was a terrible driver end of story. See ya !!

  9. He wasn’t a terrible driver. That said, the actions of the team and/or family at Thompson brought on the wrath of decency and integrity.

  10. As a driver you are solely responsible for your and your crew members actions! So these suspensions are warranted! Just wish they’d suspend Bissette too for his on track actions! This kid has been using his nerf bars as rams all year in every division he runs, this kid needs to learn that the nerf bars sole reason for being on the car is to keep modifieds from jumping wheels!

  11. No excuses for what Randy Rameau did. A criminal display of unsportsmanlike behavior. And Sam Rameau needs to be punished for his actions. But Bessette is no angel and his lack of respect for anyone he races with finally caught up to him at Thompson. Bessette is going to keep dodging punches from other drivers if he keeps racing people with no respect like he’s done everywhere this year. Stafford should have disqualified him on championship night for putting people in danger doing donuts when people were crossing the track. If you asked 50 drivers from around here which guy is a bigger danger to other drivers on the track I bet 45 of them would say Bessette over Rameau every day.

  12. Yeah ok Karen

  13. Kinda off topic, but what is Tommy Barrett’s status with NASCAR these days?

I wonder if all these entities would honor that kinda suspension in this day in age like they are doing with this incident.

  14. Has anyone talked about parenting? Besides involvement in the fracas shouldn’t Dad be held to a higher standard of culpability? Shouldn’t a parent be setting an example of responsible conduct not enabling or participating in rage fueled outbursts of their offspring. A parent with the age and experience should be doing a quick calculation in his or her head. Seeing the future clearly and the negative consequences of his sons or daughters actions and in this case pulling him away. The opposite of that happened. The opposite of that happen in the brawl at Stafford as well.
OK, OK I know what you’re thinking. Obnoxious, over jealous parents have been a problem since children started participating in sports. But physical confrontation should be the red line should it not?

  15. Henry Lecomte says

I don’t get it it’s ok to Fight in Cup series yet not in modifiers it should be lead by example Cup drivers get away with it due to the funding they bring in. I don’t care about either driver however again Lead by example

  16. Henry, it’s bully by example. That’s all it is… bullying.

  17. I’ve been thinking about this scenatio quite a bit lately….understand the consequences. My comment is regarding consistency across the racing community. A few years back I witnessed a similar situation at Stafford where a driver was attacked by a competitor, in the pits, who wasn’t even a part of the situation. The track management dealt out an equal punishment in an unequal situation. Clearly appearded, in retrospect, to be driven by the fact that one driver brings a lot of $$$ to the track with his “business”.
This was a Nascar sanctioned track at the time with absolutely no penalty from them. I have to assume they were never even aware of the situation.
Bottom line….it’s a damn shame that equality doesn’t exist across all the racing venues

  18. Sounds like you’re referring to the Rocco, Williams, Narducci suspensions resulting from their actions on June 25, 2021. While it’s true the track followed through on the three NWMT races that had been scheduled the previous fall it was in December 2020 that the track announced it’s split resulting from streaming rights. That incident did not fall under the NASCAR sanction I do not believe.
The ideal of uniformity across tracks with regard to penalties for physical confrontations is a good one. However, excepting NASCAR’s era of strong control over the Modifieds hasn’t race promotion been a wild west, swashbuckling type of deal with each track being their own fiefdom?Sometimes they try to come together sharing commonalities they think may benefit them individually but it rarely endures. Like the NHSTRA. Common rules for a few years, Vanada leases Monadnock right off the bat says the track will not be in the association for 2024.
I suppose individual states criminal statutes represent some kind of uniform liability exposure as do civil suits but that’s an entirely different can of worms. What happened in June 2021 was a clear case of assault but no charges. We’re nine days in on the Thompson confrontation has anyone heard anything about charges on that score?
For some reason and I have no idea why it’s this way if you pass through the gates of a race track what happens at the track stays at the track in the overwhelming number of incidents. Would actual criminal charges deter some of these fights? No not locking people up but perhaps community service or some such thing. The point being have some kind of formal consequences that make the statement that laws apply at race tracks the same as it does for civilians out in the real world.
It’s just weird. You sucker punch a person in public, on Main Street the odds are you’re pulled in and charged with a crime. You do it in public at a race track and for some reason it’s considered like WWE wrestling. Fake, part of the show excepting the medical bills that end up being very real.

  19. I went to the stadium to see a fight and a race broke out.

  20. Some people are more equal than others.

  21. My Mom taught us that sportsmanship starts at home not on any field (or in this case track) .So bee careful of the words you use and the voice you choose cause my actions will speak louder than any words or voice you choose. YES MOM ……
