The reign of the most successful NASCAR Whelen All-American Series division driver at Connecticut short tracks in 2016 has carried right over throughout the season when it comes to the New England Racing Fuel Support Performer of the Week Award.
Tony Membrino Jr. opened the season back in April capturing the first New England Racing Fuel Support Performer of the Week Award of the season and Wednesday he grabbed the final one of 2016.
And in between he won another four times for a total of six victories in the Support Performer of the Week Award competition this year.
Membrino closed out his SK Light Modified division championship run Saturday at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl with his seventh victory in 14 starts at the shoreline oval this year. Membrino also won the SK Light Modified championship this year at Stafford Motor Speedway.
Membrino, of Berlin, collected 111 of the 216 votes cast this week (51.4 percent).
Marc Panaroni of Ivoryton, who won Saturday’s Mini Stock feature at the Speedbowl’s Bemers Big Show, was seccond in the voting with 44 votes (20.4 percent).
Each week during the 2016 racing season the New England Racing Fuel RaceDayCT Support Performer of the Week was chosen from among drivers competing in events in one of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series weekly support divisions (excludes SK Modified divisions) at Stafford Motor Speedway, Thompson Speedway and the Waterford Speedbowl.
Membrino will receive a $20 certificate for race fuel from New England Racing Fuel.
